What it means
RESP 28 on a START means the TRANSID is not defined to this CICS region. It can also come from a dynamic transaction whose REMOTESYSTEM does not match this region, or when dynamic routing hands back the local system against the definition.
If the program does not test RESP for it, CICS ends the task abnormally (abend AEI1).
Typical causes
- The transaction ID is misspelt or held in a field with the wrong value.
- The transaction is defined in another region but not in the one where the START runs.
- A transaction meant to run remotely is defined DYNAMIC(YES) with a REMOTESYSTEM that conflicts with what routing chose.
- A new transaction was not installed in this region yet.
How to fix it
- Check the TRANSID value the program passes.
- Use CEMT I TRANSACTION(xxxx) in the region to see whether it is installed.
- If it should run elsewhere, check REMOTESYSTEM, DYNAMIC and the routing program with the CICS systems team.
- Test RESP after START so a missing transaction gives a message, not an abend.
