What it means
ICH409I appears when something fails inside RACF processing of a request, for example a RACROUTE VERIFY, AUTH, DEFINE or LIST. The text shows the abend code and whether it happened during PROCESSING or PARAMETER VALIDATION.
If it says PARAMETER VALIDATION, the program that called RACF is the likely cause, for instance by passing a bad parameter list. This is a problem for the system programmer rather than a missing permission.
Typical causes
- A calling program passed invalid parameters to RACF.
- A problem inside RACF or its database processing.
- RACF abended while handling the request; the abend code in the message points to the details.
How to fix it
- Note the exact message text, including the abend code.
- Report it to your system programmer or RACF administrator and keep the job output.
- If the last two digits of the code are 82, 83, 84, 85, C6 or C7, they can look it up in the RACF abend codes.
- Ask the owner of any exit or tool that issued the request to check its parameters.
