What it means

ERROR is raised when a command fails for a reason that has no condition of its own. On the WRITEQ TD command, for example, IBM lists it as the result of an error that raises no other condition.

Because it is general, check RESP2 and the CICS log for the real reason.

Typical causes

  • A failure that has no dedicated condition for that command.
  • A problem in the resource the command uses, reported only as a general error.

How to fix it

  1. Capture RESP2 and check the IBM page for the failing command.
  2. Look in the CICS log for messages at the same time.
  3. Code RESP (and RESP2) on the command and test the value with DFHRESP.
