What it means

INVREQ is one of the most common conditions. It covers many different problems, so the RESP2 value is what tells you the actual reason.

For example, on LINK a RESP2 of 200 means a remote-linked program used a command not allowed in a DPL server; on READQ TS a queue name of all binary zeros gives INVREQ. If not handled, the task abends with AEIP.

Typical causes

  • Options that do not go together or are not allowed for this command.
  • A command issued in the wrong order, such as a browse request without a valid browse.
  • A command not allowed in the current environment (for example in a DPL server program).
  • Bad values in names or fields passed to the command.

How to fix it

  1. Capture RESP2 and look it up on the IBM page for the failing command.
  2. Fix the options or the order of commands.
  3. Code RESP (and RESP2) on the command and test the value with DFHRESP.
  4. Use CEDF to step through the command and see the values passed.

Example

Illustrative only; names and values are invented.

EXEC CICS LINK PROGRAM('PROG02') COMMAREA(WS-AREA)
     RESP(WS-RESP) RESP2(WS-RESP2) END-EXEC
