MQRC_SSL_INITIALIZATION_ERROR (X'0959')MQ REASON CODE

A client asked for a TLS connection, but the TLS environment on the client side could not be started.

MOST LIKELY

The key repository path is wrong, or the key repository files are missing.

FIRST CHECK

Check the key repository setting (for example MQSSLKEYR or the SSLKEYR value in the client configuration).

What it means

MQCONN or MQCONNX supplied TLS settings, but TLS failed to initialise before any channel talk began. IBM documents this code for AIX, Linux and Windows. The problem is local to the program's TLS setup, not the remote queue manager.

Typical causes

  • The key repository path is wrong, or the key repository files are missing.
  • The stash file for the key repository is missing or does not match.
  • File permissions stop the program reading the key repository.
  • The MQ TLS support is not installed correctly.

How to fix it

  1. Check the key repository setting (for example MQSSLKEYR or the SSLKEYR value in the client configuration).
  2. Check the key database and its stash file exist and the program's user can read them.
  3. Read the client error log for the detailed TLS message.
  4. Check that the MQ client and its TLS components are installed correctly.
